Wedding map
Below is an interactive map of all wedding sites. If you click on the icon to the left of "Alayna and Dan's Wedding Map" you'll find the key for the map. Wedding sites are in blue, including bus pick-up sites, hotels are in green, and things to see and do are in red.
Day of the wedding transportation
The Market at Grelen is located a little more than 30 minutes outside of Charlottesville. There is parking on site for those that wish to drive, but we also have a shuttle service that will leave at 4pm from the following locations:
- DOWNTOWN: Hampton Inn
- EAST 1: Hilton Garden Inn Charlottesville
- EAST 2: Comfort Inn Monticello
- NORTH: Holiday Inn Charlottesville University Area
If you haven't already done so, please fill out this short survey to let us know if you're planning to take the bus. Please check back at this site for any changes.
General transportation
To and From Charlottesville:
For those flying to the wedding there are three airports worth looking into. Washington Dulles (IAD) will offer the most convenient flight times and lowest rates, but is about a two-hour drive from Charlottesville, so renting a car will probably be necessary. Richmond, VA (RIC) is a about an hour away from Charlottesville, but has Super Shuttle and taxi service to make it into the city if you choose not to rent a car. Charlottesville's own airport (CHO) is only about twenty minutes out of the city, but usually has the most expensive ticket prices.
For those driving to Charlottesville, it's usually about a 2 hour drive into the city from Washington, DC, although leaving during rush hour will always add some time. We've been told to watch out for speed traps (although we have yet to experience them ourselves).
For those who like to travel off the beaten path, you can also take Amtrak trains between DC and Charlottesville, although be warned! Sometimes their trains are actually commuter buses. As always with Amtrak, the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it will be.
Around Town:
Uber and Lyft are generally available in the downtown areas where the hotels are, and the Hampton Inn offers a free shuttle service to the Charlottesville airport. If you choose to sample some Virginia wines, we hope you'll identify a designated driver or book a car service to take you around.
Lodging
We STRONGLY recommend that you book your accommodations ASAP! Unfortunately, October is peak tourism season in Charlottesville, so hotels are more expensive than usual (sorry about that!) and will book up quickly. We have wedding blocks with fixed rates reserved at the hotels below. You might be able to find cheaper rates through Agoda.com or Kayak.com, but all of the hotels tell us they will sell out that weekend and rates will only get higher closer to the date. There are also nice houses for rent in the area that you can find through vrbo.com or StayChalottesville.com. Cheaper hotels may also be available in areas a little further out, like Orange, VA.
