Alayna was born in the Philippines and moved around as an Air Force brat until her family settled in Arlington, Virginia. She works at the US Agency for International Development, where she focuses on preventing crime and violence in Central America. She's lived in the Philippines, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, and Madagascar, and loves good books, long trips, hosting dinner parties, and making pottery. Alayna's parents, Kate and Frank, still live in Arlington, and her sister, Ayn-Monique, lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Josh, and daughters, Isla and Hugolyne. Alayna is excited to celebrate with both the Tetreault and Rooney sides of the family, as well as friends from around the world.
Dan was born and raised in the great town of Akron, Ohio. He currently works for a firm called Social Impact, where he develops and implements research designs to evaluate democracy and governance related development aid projects oversees. He’s lived in Nicaragua, Mexico, and Bangladesh, loves a well-crafted turkey sandwich, and likes nothing better than a walk in the woods. He has a family as wonderful as Alayna’s, including his parents Jeanne and Sabet, his sister Andrina, and his brother and best man David. Dan is looking forward to celebrating with the Sabet side of the family from New Jersey (well, originally from Egypt) and the Genaro side of the family from Denver. You can learn a little Sabet family history here.
How they met: Once upon a time, Dan was Alayna’s statistics professor in her Masters program at Georgetown. No sparks flew at the time. Three years later they started running into each other on the way to work. Since they were both interested in police reform in Latin America (what are the odds?!?), it seemed like a good idea to get together for some tacos. They never did manage to talk about police reform on their first meet up, so they've gamely continued to hang out in the hopes that they'll get around to it eventually.
